Movie Rec: The Man In The Iron Mask

The Man In The Iron Mask was released quite some time ago in 1998. But I've always loved this movie and yesterday, I watched it again on Cinemax. To be honest, I'm quite wary of any movie with DiCaprio in it - let alone a movie where he has long hair and is dressed in fufu fluffy clothes all the time. But it's not for the (then) young blonde I watch this movie for.

No. It's actually for that cluster of old, old men behind him - The Three Musketeers and D'Artagnan. I have always loved movies from a different era and this one more so. If you don't recognize those four old men with long hair, believe it or not, it's actually Gérard Depardieu playing Porthos, Gabriel Byrne playing D'Artagnan, John Malkovich playing Athos and Jeremy Irons playing Aramis. DiCaprio of course, plays Louis the XIV.

An impressive cast when you think about it. And I've always loved the character D'Artagnan. In fact, Gabriel Bryne probably started by old-man-loving when I watched this show all those years ago when I was a kid.

Still, many years on, it still has held on to it's charm - or perhaps it has grown even more, For now with Wikipedia, I can actually read up on Louis the XIV and his "fake" musketeers for I tried reading Alexandre Dumas once and failed miserably. (FYI, the four musketeers are fictional but based on real life heroes who served the real Louis the XIV)

And itneresting show and one I will watch again. :)
